One use of this is to make foldable scenery joints, or in thin strips to hold models and parts when spray painting. It’s also ideal for holding down card or mdf to make sure it doesn’t warp when glue or paint is applied. This is one of the few ways to stop corrugated card from warping when basing with PVA glue.
